Training for Sara's Wedding!

1.  Sewing Barbie clothes from fabric scraps and old bobbie sox .

2.  Inheriting the DNA creative strand from “Mama Grande” , my great-grandmother who crocheted, embroidered, and tatted lace well into her eighties.  (We won’t  talk about the crocheted hats we had to wear!  Another time, another long story!)

3.  Painting the countless posters for the hometown football team on butcher paper all during middle and senior high years.

4.  Working my way through University as a teacher-aide while obtaining my first degree .  My job description included  the creation of  bulletin boards and motivational games.

5.  Planning countless themed parties for my two children, family, and friends.

All of these experiences served as training for the Big Day when my daughter asked me to plan her wedding.  Some decisions that needed to be addressed were the Theme and the Color Scheme.. simple elegance with cream and black as the main color palette were the answers. The Common Elements that would weave the event together? Bling, bling, and details, details, details such as monogram, stripes, frames in several sizes.   The week that she announced her
engagement, I inventoried my die collection and proceeded to order die-cuts that I anticipated using for the event. Paper, cardstock, ribbons and bling were ordered and the prototypes were created, recreated, re-re-created until the perfect item was produced.

2.  Shower Invitation-  I Love the Pinnovation Dress Die!
I adapted it to cut out a "swinging skirt" that

would allow us to print the Hostess List on background
card.   An artist friend  sketched the bride with dress about
1/4" wider than the skirt overlay.  I used a brad to connect
the skirt and covered with organza bow.  I also placed a
plastic disk between the two paper items to allow smoother
      movement.

The Summer Wedding was a May Arts Ribbon Affair!

The striped ribbon was the inspiration for the Bridal Cake

The Plan:
The theme was simple elegance with bling, bling and details, details, details.
Our first decision was the color scheme and it was not a difficult one since we both love cream and black.  Our inspiration was the wonderful May Arts striped ribbon( 365-2-10 ).  The signature ribbon was used throughout the wedding and reception.  Church programs were elegantly displayed in wire baskets that were completely covered in solid black ribbon accented with cream and black dot and striped ribbons, and crystals.

My goal was to tantalize all of the senses by planning a South Texas Fiesta with the guests floating around the different areas of the beautiful McNay Museum in San Antonio, Texas.  Incredible food stations and wonderful aromas of various foods were present in all areas.  The visual effect was exemplified by unbelievable floral designs that were literally sculpted.  The background for the floral designs was a combination of different textures in the fabrics and ribbons.

The Bridal Cake

Butter cream, pastillage, and fondant were used to create the magnificent Bridal Cake.
The guests were treated to the Sweet Romance Pastry and Candy Shop after the bride and groom arrived.  Take home pastry boxes and bags were also provided.

I surrounded myself with a fabulous team that worked seamlessly to produce the
perfect wedding day for my Sara and Ross. A huge “Thank you” to all friends, family, and Wedding Team!
